Residence Hall Rates

Important Notice

Summer residents can expect large crowds and increased activity during the 2008 Olympic track-and-field trials, which will be held at Hayward Field and areas adjacent to residence halls. The event is scheduled for June 27–July 6; more details can be found at www.eugene08.com and pmr.uoregon.edu/current-uo-news/eugene-08.

Our Commitment

The Office of University Housing is committed to upholding the following statement: “The University of Oregon actively promotes cultural diversity and equal opportunity. We honor the humanity that joins us, and we celebrate the differences that distinguish us. University housing has the expectation that all its residents will actively participate in creating welcoming communities that value all members without regard to race, color, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, age, religion, marital status, disability, or veteran status.”

For more information about suitable housing, call the university housing office. Calls are handled discreetly by authorized staff members.

Eligibility

During summer, the residence halls are home to youth camps, UO-affiliated conferences, and UO summer session students. Summer housing is also made available for returning or continuing UO students while they are enrolled in and attending summer courses at the University of Oregon or UO-sponsored workshops or programs. First-time UO freshmen are encouraged to start living in the residence halls at the beginning of fall term. Senior citizens who are Oregon residents may audit UO courses free of charge and are eligible for summer housing. Out-of-state senior citizens are eligible for housing by paying tuition for courses they attend. Students may only stay in residence halls until the scheduled completion of their summer courses. Spring term residents who want to remain in the residence halls during the interim and attend summer session courses may do so, but are assessed daily room-and-board charges.

Check In

Residence hall housing is available to students attending summer presession programs beginning Sunday, June 15, 2008. Students may check in from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday through Friday. Only students enrolled in a presession course or workshop may check into a residence hall for the week of June 16–20.

Residence halls open for the four-, eight-, and eleven-week summer sessions on Sunday, June 22, 2008. Students may check in from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Check-in continues from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday through Friday, throughout the summer. Residence hall room assignments are made at check-in.

Please do not arrive more than one day in advance of your firstclass.

To facilitate check-in, advance applications are strongly encouraged. Double-occupancy rooms are available for same-gender roommates, and efforts are made to honor requests for specific roommates. Single rooms are assigned if available at the time of arrival. A $10 nonrefundable application fee is charged. Deposits are not required.

For information or an application, write to University Housing, Summer Session, 1220 University of Oregon, Eugene OR 97403-1220; call (541) 346-4217; e-mail housing@uoregon.edu, or download an application from the housing website.

Terms and Conditions of Occupancy

Residence hall occupants agree to abide by the Residence Hall Contract, which explains rights, privileges, responsibilities, and obligations. These terms are based on consideration for other residents, health and safety standards, and compliance with established laws and the UO Student Conduct Code. Failure to comply with terms of the contract may lead to fines, eviction from the residence halls, or both. The contract may be viewed on the housing website.

Residence Halls

Residence Hall Rates

During the summer months, housing facilities undergo significant maintenance and upgrades. While every effort is made to work around areas housing summer residents, services may be affected from time to time. Summer term students will be housed in Earl Hall.

The maximum occupancy per room is two residents. Most halls feature the following:

  • Rooms with blinds, a bed, bureau, desk, chair, wastebasket, and closet for each resident
  • Laundry rooms with 75¢ card-operated washers and free dryers
  • Linens (available on request)—two sheets, pillow, pillowcase, and blanket. Towels are not provided
  • Community restrooms and showers on each floor
  • A telephone (available on request). Residents can sign up for the university’s long-distance service when they arrive or through the telecommunications website, telcom.uoregon.edu
  • Rooms with Internet and cable television access. Televisions are available in common areas
  • Access to recreation equipment
  • A choice between single or double rooms, depending on availability

Food Service

Summer residents can choose between two meal plans, which can be added or canceled at any time during residence, or can choose not to sign up for a meal plan. Those residents and community members can purchase meals with cash.

The standard meal plan offers approximately sixteen meals per week. A larger meal plan, approximately nineteen meals per week, may also be purchased.

A variety of food is offered during flexible meal hours, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Summer session food service begins with dinner on Sunday, June 15, 2008. The first meal on the day of check-in is dinner. The meal plan expires when the resident checks out of the residence hall.

Residence Hall Rates

The accompanying table lists summer session rates for university residence halls. The listed rates are per person.

Charges for room and board are payable at the time of arrival. Students who stay eight weeks or more may elect to pay in two equal installments. Students who stay fewer than eight weeks pay total charges upon arrival. Cash or checks are the only accepted forms of payment.

Room and board charges are paid at the University of Oregon cashier’s office, located on the first floor of Oregon Hall. Business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Refunds

In the event that a student checks out of the residence halls early, unused room and board payments will be credited to the student’s university account.

Family Housing and University Apartments

Summer-only housing is not available in Family Housing and University Apartments, although the Office of University Housing maintains four apartment complexes and a limited number of houses for students and their families planning longer stays. Accommodation is open to married and single students, as well as those in a domestic partnership. One complex was designed to provide single-dwelling units for graduate students, while other units may be occupied by student roommates (who are at least twenty-one years old) or student families. More information on eligibility requirements and required documentation is available from the Office of University Housing or on its website.

Summer Conference Services

Residence hall facilities also house summer conference groups. Since the University of Oregon is hosting the 2008 Olympic track-and-field trials from June 27 to July 6, conference facilities are not available during this time. Otherwise, organizers and sponsors of summer workshops and conferences may consult University Catering and Conferences to arrange for housing, food, meeting, and catering services; call (800) 883-0402 or e-mail catering@uoregon.edu.

Summer Youth Camps

The University of Oregon offers one of the most varied youth camp programs in the country. Summer 2007 camps included band, basketball, Boys’ State, cheerleading, color guard, computer, drum major, jazz improvisation, percussion, soccer, vocalists and accompanists, tennis, track and field, and fine arts.

For more information, call (541) 346-4303; e-mail catering@uoregon.edu; or visit the catering and conference website, conferences.uoregon.edu.

Non university Housing

University of Oregon students may make their own living arrangements in private housing in the community. Local newspapers list available rentals, and the university’s student association has an online rental directory, http://asuorental.uoregon.edu.
